As a landscape architect, I designed parks, urban plazas, campuses and other outdoor spaces across the Pacific Northwest.
In 2012, I began my professional career as a landscape architect. For over six years, I led design teams from project discovery, through design, to project construction. There are many key attributes of a landscape architect, a few of them being:
Understand how users interact with the world around us
As a landscape architect, I impacted how a person experiences the world through the form and function of a designed space. I had to understand human movement and how to balance function, aesthetics, utility and accessibility.Advocate for the client and the user
It is critical I understood the client, the users, and each of their needs because that is who I was designing for. Speaking with the client and users and getting feedback on designs early and often validated design decisions and strongly impacted project success.Collaboration and communication
Collaborating with other disciplines and communicating design ideas to designers and non-designers was a daily practice. From working through technical limitations with engineers, to presenting design concepts to stakeholders, communication and collaboration is what drove projects forward.
