As a landscape architect, I designed parks, urban plazas, campuses and other outdoor spaces across the Pacific Northwest.

In 2012, I began my professional career as a landscape architect. For over six years, I led design teams from project discovery, through design, to project construction. There are many key attributes of a landscape architect, a few of them being:

  • Understand how users interact with the world around us
As a landscape architect, I impacted how a person experiences the world through the form and function of a designed space. I had to understand human movement and how to balance function, aesthetics, utility and accessibility.

  • Advocate for the client and the user
It is critical I understood the client, the users, and each of their needs because that is who I was designing for. Speaking with the client and users and getting feedback on designs early and often validated design decisions and strongly impacted project success.

  • Collaboration and communication
Collaborating with other disciplines and communicating design ideas to designers and non-designers was a daily practice. From working through technical limitations with engineers, to presenting design concepts to stakeholders, communication and collaboration is what drove projects forward.
